Please be advised that there is an ongoing interruption to water service in the kitchens at the above addresses. The interruption began at approximately 11 AM on Tuesday, August 16th and will be out until further notice.

There will still be both hot and cold water available in the restrooms

This is part of an urgent repair project.

Contractor Activity | Skylight Repair - Cesar Chavez Student Center | Tuesday 8/16/22 - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Please be advised that Facilities has scheduled service with a 3rd party vendor UCAL to replace the broken skylights in the Cesar Chavez Student Center (CCSC).  This is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 8/16/22 from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.  A JLG lift will be staged at Malcom X Plaza, and UCAL will work on the north-side of CCSC, near the book store.  For safety purposes, Facilities staff will also safety cone and caution tape the area directly below where UCAL will be working and will be present during this work.

Weekend Work | Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) | Saturday 8/13/22 - 7:00 am - 3:00 pm

Please be advised that Facilities will be working in the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) on Saturday 8/13/22, from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Campus Locksmiths have coordinated with ECEC to install new panic hardware on the north-side exterior fire exit door towards State Dr.

Contractor Work - Road Closure | **Extended through 8/17/22 - 24 hour closure

The Cox Stadium road closure has been extended through Wednesday, 8/17/22  to provide additional time to shore dig.

  • Road leading to COX stadium will be closed 24 hours a day, through 8/17/22.

Service Interruption Update | HSS Building - Central Heating Unavailable

Update:  Full repairs to the HSS Building are now estimated to take about 2 weeks.  Facilities has scheduled abatement removal with a 3rd party contractor to ensure that campus trades can safely work in the affected area of the HSS Building.  The abatement removal process will take approximately 1.5 weeks. Then, once the abatement removal is completed, Facilities BSEs will remove and replace a section of heat pipe.

An additional update will be provided once the central heating has been restored to the HSS Building.

Service Interruption | HSS Building - Central Heating Unavailable

Facilities crews discovered a leak in a portion of heat pipe in the HSS Building. Campus BSE’s were able to isolate and stop the leak; however, there will be no heat in the HSS Building until further notice.  Repairs are currently in progress and further updates will be provided as additional information is available.

Elevator Service Update | Lot 20 - Elevator No. 1

Please be advised that the South Parking Lot 20 Elevator No. 1 has been restored and is back in service.

TKE elevator adjusted the elevator door operation, installed new overhead door track covers and transferred the key switch into the new Control Operation Panel (COP).

CPDC planned Electrical Outage - 8/6/22 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m, 8/7/22 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Due to many comments and remarks from our Colleagues, CPDC requested DPR (General Contractor) to review and accelerate its work in order to achieve the power shut off during the weekend of August 6th and 7th, instead of working days.  Based on reached agreement Capital Planning Design and Construction (CPDC) has rescheduled an electrical power shutdown for Science, Hensil Hall, Thornton Hall, Student Health Center and Towers Residence on Saturday August 6, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday August 7, 2022, from 7:00a.m. – 4:30p.m.  This shutdown is necessary to connect New Science Building to the campus electrical system.  The contractors involved in this work is DPR, and Rosendin Electric.  Facilities will assist CPDC and contractor as needed.  The contractor will make all attempts to minimize disruption.  Attached is a logistics plan for upcoming activities.

Domestic Cold Water Shutdown | Marcus Hall - Saturday, 7/23/22 from 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Facilities has scheduled a domestic-cold water shutdown for Marcus Hall on Saturday July 23, 2022, from 7:30 am – 2:30 pm.  This shutdown is needed to install isolation / shut off valves for the 3rd and 4th floor drinking fountains, and to replace the filters.

255 BW Elevator - Out of service | Friday, 7/15/22

Elevator Update | UPN 225 BW | 7/14/22

Please be advised that UPN 225 Buckingham Way Elevator Service will be restored on Thursday, July 14 at the end of the business day.  TKE is test running the elevator car to ensure smooth elevator operation after the traction car was re-roped and received a new elevator governor and tail sheave.

Annual Elevator State Inspection | Marcus Hall Elevator #1 (Out of service) - July 18, 2022 - 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Please be advised that TKE Elevator and Facilities have scheduled an annual state inspection for Marcus Hall (elevator #1) on Monday July 18, 2022, from 7:00 am 1:00 pm. This elevator will be out of service until further notice.

During this test, the power to the building will not be affected and Marcus Hall passenger elevator #2 will be available for use.  Facilities and a TKE elevator technician will be on-site while the test is being performed.

Facilities is working with contractor SBAY to assist with repairs to the campus heating hot water loop.  These repairs are required to improve campus infrastructure and prevent leaks in the future.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, please be advised the road leading to COX Stadium will be closed for up to 2 hours between 7:00 am – 1:00 pm.  Facilities received a late notice that contractor SBAY will be repairing the pavement at Five Corners, and the road leading to Cox Stadium.

As an alternate route to the Corporation Yard and upper campus, staff can use the road located between Maloney Field and the west-side of the Campus Parking Garage.

GYM Pool 121 - Out of service 6/30/22 | Scheduled Maintenance

Please be advised that the GYM Pool 121, will be out of service on June 30, 2022.

Facilities is working with contractor CLA-Val to replace a pool pump valve in M7.  This service is needed to maintain the water quality in the pool and for health and safety reasons.

Campus Road Closures | PG&E & SBAY | 6/21/22 - 7/1/22

As an alternate route back to the Corporation Yard, staff can use the Maloney Field road located between Maloney Field and the west side of the Campus Parking Garage

Please be advised of the following road closures below.  (See attached map for additional details)

  • There will be a PG&E soft road-closure at the Fuel Cell from Tuesday, 6/21/22 through Friday, 6/24/22 from  6:00 am – 5:00 pm.  This closure is needed for PG&E to remove a concrete pad.  PG&E will have contractor staff available to flag vehicles through their project site.
  • There will be a SBAY road closure at the road leading down to Cox Stadium from Tuesday, 6/21/22 through Friday, 7/1/22 from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm.  This closure is needed to perform trench work across the road.

As an alternate route to the Corporation Yard and upper campus, staff can use the road located between Maloney Field and the west-side of the Campus Parking garage.

Facilities has scheduled crane work on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 5:00 am – 10:00 am with Sheedy Crane to remove and replace the MUA equipment from the Cesar Chavez Student Center roof area above the shops of Quickly to the Halal Shop. The crane will be staged towards the south side of the GYM near the Burk Hall stairs. 

As a result of this work, there will be limited access to the vendor spaces during the times listed above.

  • The road behind the GYM, near the fuel cell will be closed from 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. from 5/31/22 – 6/1/22.  This closure is required for (PG&E) to remove the remaining equipment and cable at the fuel cell building.
  • The road leading to the COX stadium will be closed from 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. from 5/31/22 – 6/3/22. This closure is required for contractor (SBAY) to perform utility work and trenching.

As an alternate route to the Corporation Yard and upper campus, staff can use the road located between Maloney Field and the west-side of the Campus Parking Garage.

Please be advised that TKE Elevator and Facilities have scheduled an annual state inspection for the Library (LRS) elevator on Friday, 5/13/22 from 6:30 a.m – 11:00 a.m. The elevator life safety system will be tested under the operation of the building generator.  Our in-house campus elevator technician will be on-site while the test is being performed.

Please note that during this test, the power to the building will not be affected.  All passenger elevators will be available, and the Library Retrieval System will still be operational.

Please be advised that the road leading down to Cox Stadium from Five Corners will be closed and unavailable on Friday, 4/29/22, from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm.   Contractor JUV will remove their trench plate, and install surveying equipment to identify dimensions for new utilities.

As an alternate route back to the Corporation Yard, staff can use the Maloney Field road located between Maloney Field and the west-side of the Campus Parking Garage.

As an alternate route back to the Corporation Yard, staff can use the Maloney Field road located between Maloney Field and the west side of the Campus Parking Garage.

Hensill Hall 3rd Floor sliding doors | Out of service

Please be advised that the 3rd floor exterior sliding doors at Hensill Hall, are out of service.  The sliding doors have been secured and labeled with caution tape.  For alternative entry and exit options, please use the east side doors and the west side doors on the 3rd floor. As an alternative ADA option, please use the 2nd floor west side ADA accessible doors.  Unfortunately we do not have an estimated time to complete this repair, however additional details will be provided once available.

April 6 - May 15: Notice of Annual Fire System Testing in Housing Buildings 9:00AM - 3:00PM

Please be advised that the annual fire system testing will take place on all Housing managed buildings between April 6 and May 19, 2022. The Testing will take place between 9:00AM and 3:00PM. Please refer to the schedule below. Our fire system vendor (ADT) will need to enter all rooms with fire detection equipment and will be escorted by SFSU Facilities staff. The inspection and testing will take approximately 5 minutes in each room. The strobes and horns will also be activated for short periods during this inspection.

  • April 6 - April 8: Mary Park Hall, Mary Ward Hall, Seven Hills Conference Center, City Eats Dining Center
  • April 18 - April 22: Village at Centennial Square: Buildings A, B, & C
  • April 25 - April 29: Towers Junior Suites, Towers at Centennial Square
  • May 9 - May 11: University Park North High Rise Buildings
  • May 16 - May 19: University Park North Garden Apartments

Annual Campus-wide Fire Extinguisher Inspections  - 4/1/22 - 4/12/22

Fire and Life Safety Manager David Abordo and vendor (Ace Fire Equipment & Service) have scheduled annual fire extinguisher inspections.  These inspections are throughout the entire campus and will begin on (Friday, April 1st through Tuesday, April 12th.)  We will be checking for any outdated fire extinguishers and replacing them as needed.  

The inspection schedule is as follows:

April 1st

  • Thornton Hall, Hensill Hall, Temp buildings and Greenhouse.

Week of April 4th – 8th

  • Monday: Parking Garage of Administration building, HSS, and Business.
  • Tuesday: Library, Creative Arts, & Humanities
  • Wednesday: Burk Hall, SSB, Student Health Center, and Ethnic Studies.
  • Thursday: Fine Arts, GYM, Field House, Press Box, Warehouse, and Science
  • Friday:  Corporation Yard, Annex I, Annex II, Children’s Campus, Lot 20, Central Plant, and Waste Center

Week of April 11th – 12th

  • Monday: Mashouf Wellness Center, and Marcus Hall.
  • Tuesday: Burk Hall to replenish spares and any remaining locations that were not serviced.

Generator & Fire Testing | Elevator State Inspections | SSB, VCS, MWC, Lot 20 Garage

Facilities Services has scheduled annual elevator state inspections for SSB, VCS, MWC, and Lot 20. The elevators listed below will be unavailable for general use during the dates and times listed. There will be limited exceptions for any person(s) with ADA specific needs.

Testing is performed to simulate a power outage and to ensure that the elevator switches over to emergency generator power.  There will be a brief power outage for approximately 5 seconds when the building switches from standard power to emergency generator power.  When the building has switched to generator power, the building(s) will only have power to fire and life safety devices such as emergency lighting and fire alarm systems for approximately 5 minutes to complete the testing phase. Each building will be tested separately to minimize disruption as much as possible.  

Once the testing is complete, the power to the building will be immediately restored.  

The buildings affected and dates scheduled are as follows:

  • SSB | March 22, 2022 – 7:30 am – 10:30 am
  • Village at Centennial Square | March 22, 2022 – 7:30 am – 10:30 am
  • Mashouf Wellness Center | March 21, 2022 – 7:30 am – 1:00 pm
  • Lot 20 Garage #2| March 21, 2022 – 7:30 am – 1:00 pm

Cleaning The Gym's Air Ducts

Starting  Sunday, 3/13, at around 11:00 p.m., ACCO Engineered Systems and QualityAire Services will begin to clean the Gym’s interior air ducts. The contractor will work from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning. During the day, ACCO will clean roofs air handler units Monday through Friday. The project will finish at the end of April.

Burk Hall | Domestic-Cold water shutdown | Friday, March 11, 2022 - 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Please be advised that Facilities is scheduling an emergency domestic-cold water shutdown today Friday March 11, 2022, from 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm for the Burk Hall building. This shutdown is required to complete repairs to the leak in front of the GYM near the Memorial Grove.  The restrooms in Burk Hall will be unavailable during the time listed above and the appropriate signage will be posted.   The following restrooms will be open and available: Ethnic Studies and Psychology, Cesar Chavez Student Center, Fine Arts, Student Services Building, and the GYM.

Facilities Plumbing Repairs - | March 11, 2022 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. | Domestic Cold Water

Please be advised that Facilities has been actively working on a fix to the leak in front of the GYM near the Memorial Grove.  Part of these efforts require additional troubleshooting and as a result the buildings listed below may experience intermittent fluctuations in domestic cold water, as well as a brief domestic cold water shutdown for approximately 15 minutes tomorrow, Friday March 11, 2022, between 7:00 am – 8:00 am.

Campus-Wide - Fire Alarm System Update | Tuesday, 3/8/2022 from 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Facilities is working with a 3rd party contractor JCI to complete a campus-wide fire alarm system update, tomorrow Tuesday, 3/8/2022 from 7:30 am – 2:00 pm. 

Please be advised that there may be intermittent alarm sounds at all fire alarm control panels and annunciators during the above listed time while the update takes place.  Campus electricians will be on-site working with JCI and providing assistance as necessary.

Facilities Plumbing work | Quad near Memorial Grove

Please be advised that in front of the GYM near the Memorial Grove there will be a portion of the quad that will be partially fenced in and will cause a slight pathway detour.  Facilities will be prepping this area for excavation to locate the source of an active leak.

HSS Building - Plumbing Domestic Cold Water Shutdown - Saturday 2/12/22 from 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

ADMIN Building Notification: Two Upcoming Projects (Elevator Modernization & Water Filling Replacement)

Please note the following work projects taking place in the Administration Building. The first work project will be the Elevator Modernization project, part of the campus-wide elevator modernization project. The second work project is the HEERF Water Filling Station Replacement project, which will take place on Administration Building 2nd—4th floors. I have included more details below, along with contacts for each project:

  • ELEVATOR MODERNIZATION PROJECT The next series of campus-wide elevator modernizations will be Administration Building (ADM) Elevator No. 3 (EL3, Breezeway) followed by ADM Elevator No. 4 (EL4, Holloway next to Data Center) beginning next week, Monday, February 7, 2022. I have been informed that crews will only work on one elevator at a time. While EL3 is being modernized EL4 will be available and vice versa. Elevators 1 and 2 will always be available during this project. I have included a diagram that identifies the various elevator work locations.

ELEVATOR WORK ADDITIONAL INFO — The scope of work conducted during daytime weekdays will involve replacing the pit lighting, elevator machine room lighting, electrical outlets, hydraulic jacks, hydraulic pump unit, elevator controller, control operation panels, roller guides, voice annunciation, hall lanterns, call buttons, smoke and heat detectors in the lobbies and elevator machine rooms, door operators and elevator recall system (automatic elevator lowering device). The benefits of elevator modernization include increased durability and reliability, improved fire and life safety features, decreased waiting times, reduced energy consumption, reduced operational cost, and reduced troubleshooting time.

  • HEERF WATER FILLING REPLACEMENT STATION PROJECT of replacing the drinking fountains with bottle filling stations on the 2nd—4th floors. Jack from Eternal construction will be replacing the units. He will start on the third floor since we already have ongoing construction. Once we know approximately how long one unit will take then we can come up with a time frame for the remaining floors. Until this work is complete, please use the water filling station on the 1st floor.
